What was wrong with my cat
I had a one year old cat that passed away yesterday. I have no clue as to what could have caused its death. It hadn't eaten in 5 days and constantly vomitted. I didn't have the money to take it to a vet. It lost a lot of weight and wouldn't eat. It seemed to lose all energy and life in it. Finally it just stopped breathing yesterday. I would really like to know what could have been wrong with it. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

It could have been poisoned by something like radiator fluid or other household chemicals. If you can't afford a vet, please don't get anymore pets.

This person was very rude and should think about what they say before they decide to type anything

I may be rude, but you allowed a helpless animal to die because you wouldn't take it to a vet. Owning a pet is a commitment and no one should take on a pet unless they are willing and able to provide proper medical care.

Tyler I am sorry that your cat died... but it is really unfair to let an animal suffer like that. Hopefully you will not get another rcat until your finances are better. I don't believe in going to the vet every time they puke up a hairball, but 5 days and no food and constant vomitting is serious stuff and needs vet care.

I came to this site looking for answers to relief my grief but none of you are a help. What did you expect me to do pull money out of my? I loved my cat and I tried to do everything I could to help it.I'm only a 16 year old guy going to school. I do not have any finances coming in to support anything. But that doesn't seem to matter to any of you as the only thing your concerned about is criticizing my actions. I hope to god none of you are put in the same situation as I was because then you will actually feel how bad it is to lose something so close to you and get criticized at the same time.

I am really sorry that you lost your cat. I am sure you feel guilty and heart broken enough as it is. I too have been in your situation and knowing my cat needed help and I couldn't give it to her broke my heart. Lucky for me, and my cat I was able to barrow the money to get her the help she needed. I'm not trying to criticize you in saying this but please do look into getting vet insurance for your next pet. If by some chance you are in this situation again, in some situations some shelters will reluctantly put a dying animal down for you, though they probably won't let you take the body back with out paying for the cost of the shot.

I just saw this post and had to comment. It seemed to me that an answer to what we thought may have been wrong instead of some of the sanctimonious comments would have been more effective and helpful. Sure you shouldn't own a pet unless you can afford the care, but sometimes circumstances occur at the wrong time. Many people rescue pets who are in dire straits and any comfort the pet receives is far better than the life they had, if only for a short while.
As to the problem, it was liver and probably kidney failure. Cats' livers are undersized, and they can't handle the excess fat produced when the cat fails to eat. As a warning to anyone out there, with an over-wieight cat especially, don't allow your cat to go without eating for more than a day or two. As to what the vet would have been able to do... probably a feeding tube for some time. As to the cause, could have been a poison or some other irritant, hard to say.
I doubt Tyler will read this, which is a shame. But I hope someone else can learn from this, including those who felt it necessary to criticize without advice.

Dinakat, without actually seeing the cat, it is hard to say why it died. Yes, it could have been poisoned, it could have gotten into something, it could have been liver failure because it didn't eat. But there is also a possibility that the cat was ill, or had something blocking the intestinal tract, which a vet visit may have been able to fix.
I'm not sure what people expect when they post questions like "why did my pet die" when they haven't taken it to a vet. None of us have seen the pet, so we can't answer the question. And even if we could, what happens when the answer is "because you didn't get it the simple medical treatment it needed"? Is that going to make the person feel better? Or are they really expecting us to say "there was nothing you could do anyway, so it's ok that you didn't do anything"?
