    Seizures?
Okay, Imay be being completely parinoid being that this is my first puppy. But my 12 week old Golden-Lab sleeps a lot, which I know is okay, but when he lays next to me on the couch I will randomly look over at him and see that he is twitching out of control, almost seizure like. This just became noticeable to me over the past week and it makes me nervous, do you think he needs the vet or is he just sleeping well?

Sometimes dogs will twitch like they are having a bad dream and acting on it -- like running from another dog. But not seeing what he is doing I can't say that is what it is. You might want to get it on cam corder and show a vet.

It is quite normal for puppies to sleep a lot, and do a lot of moving while sleeping. A seizure is different enough to leave no doubt.

If the spastic twitching only occurs while he is sleeping, it is very, very normal. My older dog still does that. They do dream. Wait until your puppy starts to wag his tail in his sleep! LOL. I never get tired of watching that. Sometimes they will bark, make whimpering sounds, or seem to be running.

If he is awake one moment, then flops down onto the floor twitching, and is unresponsive for a few minutes, that is a seizure.

Dreaming vs. Seizures? [ 5 Answers ]

Just recently, I've noticed that Trink does some violent twitchy jerky movements of her legs when she's lying down resting. I'm thinking that it's just that "running in their sleep" thing that dogs do, but her eyes aren't closed when she does it. They are sort of slitted, with part of the white...
