    Whirlpool dishwasher--leftover detergent, spotty glasses/utensils
Thanks so much for providing this service. This is my first question here.

We're now regretting that we replaced a 23-year-old KitchenAid dishwasher in May with a Whirlpool GU2455XTSQ. We chose that brand because of its reliability record in Consumer Reports, and that model because it came out very well the last time Consumer Reports tested dishwashers.

We use liquid Cascade dishwasher detergent. From the beginning, we have had problems with leftover detergent in the dispensers, which never happened with the old dishwasher. We've tried cutting way back on detergent, on the advice of a Whirlpool service technician who had come to repair our new Whirlpool refrigerator. It almost doesn't seem to matter how much or little we use, although a little (under a quarter full) seems better than half or two-thirds full, which is what the manual recommends. Sometimes there's no residue several loads in a row, but it always comes back. Besides, how clean are the dishes getting with so little detergent used?

Often many of the dishes and utensils are spotted. Occasionally they also have small amounts of leftover detergent on them.

For energy-saving purposes we keep our hot water at 120 degrees, but I can't imagine we're the only people who do that. The detergent is always fresh.

We're almost at the point of thinking we should wash everything by hand. Did I say we wish we hadn't replaced our old dishwasher?

We'd be very grateful for suggestions.

This isn't going to help you much, but I have a similar problem with my BRAND NEW Whirlpool dishwasher. My 15 year old kenmore was making noises so we replaced it. I think we made the wrong choice. My Flatware collects a residue that obviously is the detergent. We are using the brand Whirlpool packed with the dishwasher, so at least Whirlpool doesn't think it's a detergent problem. My water is plenty hot enough. You can't hold your hand under it. Yes, we do have hard water. Do you?
