Well, each person has his/her own opinion and is entitled to it, and not every film is going to appeal to everyone... many reviewers have called it "nearly perfect" and "superbly directed" and "one of the best films of the year"... those reviewers who disliked it seem to have been in the minority. Cuaron must have done something right.
I personally found it a powerful and enthralling piece of filmmaking and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates dystopian stories like Brazil, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, and so on.
