    I was also wondering if it made a difference if I took the jumper cables and hooked them into the battery connection of a car if I would not get the same response as if the battery where in it

    You can jumper a car with no battery in it, the cables need to be thick for better results or two sets of cables on top of each other. A completely dead battery will suck up most of the juice, I have done this many times. Use an engine or chassis ground, not the negative battery cable. You also may need to raise the idle on the good car but not too high, it does not need to race.
