    Pregnancy rash
I am 6 months pregnant. I have developed a rash all over my neck and parts of my face. I called my doctor and she said it is a pregnancy rash and that it is very common. She said an anti itch cream was about all I could do and the rash may or may not go away. I can't imagine this rash sticking around until I deliver. It is so itchy and it drives me crazy. I have never heard of a pregnancy rash and was curious if anyone else has heard of this or experienced it. Any advice on what could help?

Yes, this is quite common actually. It is due to the increase in estrogen during pregnancy. Be sure to stay hydrated, bathe or shower in warm water, not hot, and use a topical anti itch as your doctor suggested.

The doctor said that this rash will most likely not go away until after I deliver is that what usually happens?

It is very possible that you will continue to have the rash until your hormones get back to a pre-pregnant state. I would recommend Eucerin Cream, the kind that comes in a little tub, not the tube.

I had a rash when I was pregnant too. It started at about 7 months. It looked similar to poison ivy, but seemed to change sometimes too.

My doctor gave me a prescription for a steriod, the name of which I do not remember, but I do know it was safe during pregnancy, and also a prescription for an antihistamine.(sorry I don't remember the name of this either but it was a small green pill.)This did help, but it took some time. The anti-histamine was especially helpful because at least it kept me from staying awake scratching. Don't take anything over the counter, such as benadryl without asking your doctor first. I don't know whether it is safe.

Another thing that I found somewhat helpful was to put cold rags, ice packs or even a bag of frozen vegetables on the rash.

If you are really concerned about this, make sure you talk to you doctor again. When I had this rash my doctor ran screens for liver problems and ruled out fifth disease too.
