    Credit cards after death
My fatherin law died last week. He had credit card debt. Is anyone responsible for it? Or does the credit card company absorb it?

His estate is responsible. Any debts owed have to be paid out of the estate before any funds can be distributed to heirs. If there was no estate, no assets of value, then there is nothing to pay his debts with so the card companies just write it off.
