    Wiring a Garage Woodshop
I'm working on putting together my dream woodshop in the garage and I think electrical is going to be a nightmare. Right now the garage has one 20 amp circuit coming from the house. My house is 120 yrs old with only 100 amps in the basement.

My understanding is that I'll have to have ComEd run another 100 amps to provide enough power and then have an electrician wire the garage. I'll want 110 and 220 AND I just scored a really great air compressor free from work that is 3 phase. I have NO idea what that entails.

Any advice? Anyone have the remotest idea what this might cost me in Illinois?

    Thanks a bunch,
    Chris

You will need a phase converter to run the 3 phase unit:
3 Phase Converter Info- Sales- rotary phase converter, static 3 phase rotary converters.

Do research on the converters to determine if you want to use one.

They work, but some electricians, hmmmm, don't like them. It's voodoo.

Put together a scope of work, include a sketch if possible, of all outlets needed. Ask each to size the feeder and connected load of the existing service.

Get three estimates from small to midsize contractors, to include all insurances, permit fess, and inspections.

Cost is up to many factors, too many to speculate cost.
