Have you tried an employment agency? They can be a big help when you need a job. Depending on the agency, the jobs may be temporary or permanent. Sometimes you may be hired for a temporary job, and then hired in permanently if the company thinks you do a good job. The way it works is, you go to the employment agency and fill out an application. Then you have an interview and take a drug test. Once, you have completed these steps, the agency begins to look for a job for you. Sometimes you may be asked to take a test determining your skills. For example, if you are looking for an office job, you may be asked to take a typing test. If you are looking for a factory job, you may be asked to take a welding test, or whatever applies to the type of job you are looking for. Agencies have different requirements. Many require a high school diploma/GED and no felonies. The agency will let you know when a potential job comes available; they will tell you the pay, requirements, let you now if it is temp. or permanent, and ask if you are interested. Even if a job is temporary, it can be a great way to build a resume and get work references. If an employment agency isn't what you are looking for, check the newspapers and the internet. Put your application out, and write a resume. Even if places aren't hiring, ask if they are accepting applications. If you have an application in, then when a position comes open, you will have a chance. Try applying at large companies also. They have more positions and also a wider variety of jobs. Just keep putting your application out. Also, make sure you dress professionally when putting in an application, even if it isn't an interview. I hire people at my job, and I don't know how many times someone has put an application in and I've tossed it out because it was too hard to read, was dirty, or the person was dressed either super casual or wearing pajama pants or something like that! :) I'm sure you know better than that though; you wouldn't believe some of the stuff/applications I have seen! Just keep trying and don't give up. It can be hard to find first shift positions. Hang in there and GOOD LUCK!!
