    Furnace catching fire
Our heating furnace is powered by propane gas. There is a weird smell coming from it and when I relit the pilot light & turned the thermostat to "on" fire started blowing out of the furnace. Please help... could we have carbon monoxide in our home? There is also soot caked on the inside of furnace. oh, and the furnace is located in our bedroom closet.

SHUT OFF THE GAS SUPPLY AND SHUT OFF THE POWER TO YOUR FURNACE AND CALL A SERVICE COMPANY TO SERVICE THE UNIT!! DO NOT RUN IT! Your furnace is sooted up due to either lack of combustion air or/or lack of proper LP gas supply / pressure. It will have to completely cleaned... in the current condition you have a VERY hazardous condition !
