Suppose the width of strip is x

    Then length of inner rectangle = 40 - 2x, width = 30 - 2x

    Hence area of inner rectangle = (40 - 2x) (30 - 2x)

    total area = 40 times 30 = 1200

    Hence area of the stripped part = 1200 - (40 - 2x) (30 - 2x)

    The two are equal:

    1200 - (40 - 2x) (30 - 2x) = (40 - 2x) (30 - 2x)

Solve this equation to get x

Hi, I am a first time user so hope I am doing this correctly. The original home was H(t)=-16t(squared)+1450. I came up with [-16(1)squared + 1450 + 16 (0)squared - 1450 / 1 = -16. I am pretty sure the answer is correct however can't figure out how to plug it into a TI-83 to graph it. Thanks,
