I unfortunately was involved in an auto theft crime. I take full responsiblility for my part in the whole thing. The brief explanation, my friends and I were on drugs and I wasn't in the right state of mind. Previously, I had been undergoing severe pyschotherapy and was meeting with my pyschiatrist 3 times a week because I'd been going through a lot over the previous year. Which is why I got into drugs in the first place. Which lead to this dumb auto theft I got myself into. I'm clean now, but the damage has been done. The theft took place in Colorado, and a few months ago, I got picked up in NM, where I reside, on a warrant that Colorado had issued on the auto theft charge. I spent 35 days in NM jail awaiting extradition, but Colorado never came for me, so I bonded out for 10k cash surety. After I was released, I was told I'd get something in the mail telling me I have court in Colorado or whatever. Well, instead, I got notice through my bondsman that I had a court hearing here in NM. She explained to me that it was just an arraignment and that they'd tell me what to do from there. A week later, I showed up for court, and spoke with my Public Defender before court was in session. Here's where I messed up. I followed the advice of my PD. You know what he told me? He said that once the hearing started, I'd for sure be arrested, taken into custody, because in my documents it said Colorado issued a governor's warrant for my return to Colorado. That I would be arrested right then and there. So, his best advice to me? To leave. And to take care of the charges directly through Colorado. Now, at first it was odd to me that he'd advise me to leave, (causing a failure to appear), and to skip out. But at the moment I only had a split second to decide what to do. So I left like he told me. Now I have the warrant in Colorado, AND in NM. Now I'm in deeper doodoo than I was before. I've been told that Colorado won't give me a court date until I turn myself in. I've been advised to go and turn myself in. But the whole of this is to ask if anyone knows how I should approach this whole situation. What exactly am I facing if I go turn myself in? And will my 35 days in jail already be credited to the sentence they may give me once this is all settled? Basically, can anyone give me an idea of the penalties or sentences I may be facing?? Sorry it was a really long story, but I had to explain it all so you can get the full idea.:confused:

Yeah, a dumb PD. Nothing new.

Turn yourself in IN Colorado. Otherwise you'll spend time in jail waiting for them again. Your 35 days should be credited to you (if you have a good lawyer this time).
