Now I need to ask some things. Custody
I typed a long message stating that the father of my child has decided to relinquish his rights. Well I guess he is a little indecisive. I received a phone call last night from him stating that he has decided it's not the best. I agree, but now he's going to try to push it to the limits. Little back ground information before the question. I am 25 and sonly in the 2nd trimester of my pregnancy so I do still have a ways to go before having to deal with the custody issues but I am scared and want to know what I'm dealing with so I have started now to look up info. Basically it was an emotionally abusive relationship and controlling. I found out I was pregnant, told him, and things got better, but not for long. That is when I decided to jet. Ever since then it has been nothing but threats. The latest threat is he is going to file for joint custody where both of us get full amount of time with the kids. Here is the problem. In order for me to be able to care for this child on my own I need the help of family for child care, and reduced housing. I have already gotten offers from my family to babysit for free, and rent an apt for a decent price that I can afford with the added baby expenses. I will need to move 2 hrs away from my current location to do this. The reason my ex wants joint custody is so that I t have to pay the child support and he gets off scot free. He at the moment works business for self under the table there for being considered unemployed because he has no paper trail and no taxes. I have been told that in these cases if one parent is making more then the other they have to pay the child support because they both get the child the same amount of time. If I do not move I can not financially support this child. I have a good job that pays well for a single person but not for a mother and child. He will try to get out of paying support at all costs even if it means going to jail. This is just one of the tactics he is going to try... switching it up on me. Can he do this... can he stop me from moving even if it means I barely get by, if at all? Being "technically" unemployed can he still get joint custody and switch the child support? He also has a criminal record. 3 felonies. I have been told that if they have proven to be clean from illegal activity at the time of the custody battle, they over look their criminal record. Or could his record be the deciding factor for partial custody on his end? He also has no vehicle which is another reason why he will try to stop me from moving. Will I be made to have to do all the running back and forth or does he have to try to meet me half way? Sorry for the length... I kind of went off on a tangent and I may not have made sense at some points because my mind is just racing out of control.

Right now you can move wherever you want to. The baby isn't born, there is no visitation order set... you can move anywhere. Now once the baby is born and a visitation order is set you will need his permission to move out of STATE... if you are talking 2 hours away in the same state... nothing he can do.

I was chatting to a friend today and the comment was made that "most people after 3 years know where the relationship is going". Was just wondering how true that really is? And does it really matter?
