How do we hook this up?
My friend has DSL and was told that she needed a router to hook to her cable modem to use her computer in another room. There is no DSL connection in the other room. If I have to hook the router to the modem, how do I hook the cable from the router to the computer if the computer is in a different room? It doesn't make sense to me. I thought the whole idea of the router was so that she could use the computer in the other room. She has a USB adapter (Bluetooth). Is that the missing link?

I will assume she has a wireless card in her computer, a wireless router sends the computer signal on basically radio waves that are received by the other computer, if she does not have a wireless card in her computer she will need a wireless card also. I can take m computer in any room of the hosue, on the front proch, in the yard anywhere

No, she does not have a wireless card. So, when she gets one, I don't have to hook up any wires to the computer from the router or the modem, correct?

You're going to need a wireless router or a long Ethernet cable. If the router is wireless, You're going to need a wireless card or that USB wireless thingy, I would suggest installing the disc that came with on the other PC and follow the prompts. If not run the wireless connection wizard that is already installed on your PC. I'm no expert on these matters and maybe someone will come along with better advice. Good luck!

Okay, we got the wireless router and the wireless USB for the computer. The first guy at Radio Shack sold us the wrong router. Everything states that it is installed properly and has a strong signal. I spent 3 hours yesterday trying to get an internet connection (Comcast). The phone line, cable line and ethernet cable all plug into the cable modem and then the wireless router runs from that. I found out that her land line (Comcast) isn't working. Is that why I can't connect to the internet? What would the phone line have to do with the ethernet?
