Renter Rights in Missouri without a signed lease
I found an apartment to rent on Craigs List on the internet. All of the conversations were verbal and there was no signed rental agreement. The landlord refused to make the property habital... no kitchen, no key to the apartment, no private entrance. I refused to pay rent until we spoke in person however, she did not return phone calls or emails. I rented a uhaul and paid for the rental out of pocket to take cabinets, tile and granite she had purchased for the kitchen with no offer of reimbursement. The gas was shut off for 3 days. I am diabetic and my daughter who is staying with me is pregnant and we were locked out of the upstairs thereby giving us no access to the upstairs kitchen facilities. We were told we could use the upstairs until our kitchen was installed. The owner of the property has no intention of completing the kitchen. She has refused to pay the plumber who did work both for the upstairs unit and the rough in for the basement kitchen. She entered the apartment yesterday while my daughter was gone and threw away our food, took out the mini fridge and the microwave (which had been given to us by the acting onsite manager). She threatened to call the police on my daughter and call the dog pound on my animals. I am out of town for a few days helping my youngest daughter who is going through a divorce and house sitting for a friend. I have rented a house but have no means to move furniture. I am at a lose as to what to do. What are my rights? The property is in Kansas City, MO.

    Thank you

I'm just wondering why you moved in in the first place. You have no agreement, you have an unihabitable premises. I would get some friends, rent a truck and move. Let them try to sue you.
