I am interested in starting my own home typing business. I've done quite a bit of research on the subject, however, I'm not sure how to charge businesses. Can someone help me? Thank you!

I'm curious what research you have done here. Twenty years ago I started a computer services company that included word processing services. That market has dried up over the years because so many people and companies have their own PCs with word processors.

I don't believe this is a viable business.

Why do you not think this is a good business? I checked a few reliable (so I think) websites in regards to starting on a limited budget. I need a good part time job to go with my full time job. I would prefer to work at home, I love to type and thought this would be good. It offered some tips on where to look for at home typing and what sort of businesses could be looking for this service. It recommends small businesses because of the fact that larger businesses already have this in their business.

I explained why. Even the smallest businesses today have PCs. I don't know what these sites are that you found but they are very out of date. Before you start doing this I suggest you try finding even a few businesses that would say they are interested.

I'm not getting anywhere with the link that you provided. Can you copy and paste the address from the address bar when you are at the site?

Even if you can do that, I would hope that you would look down at the bottom of this page. There are links to questions that have been similar to yours. You might also try clicking on them and looking at the answers that have been given.

In short, unless you can do dictation, are able to do medical transcription or prepare resumes for people, there really isn't much of a market for people to have jobs typing at home in order to make money doing it.

First the article was posted almost a year ago. Even then it was outdated. If that is the only research you have done, its not enough.

I understand you are just looking for a supplemental income, but this isn't it. Like I said, even the smallest businesses have PCs so why would they pay you to do something they can do themselves. The market just doesn't exist anymore. It hasn't existed for years.

Do not even pay attention to all that nonsense people are spitting out. This is definitely a good part time income if you are fast and efficient. I've had a lot of offers to type for many college students. I type 90wpm. I never went into the business because I did not know what to charge. Some small businesses need experienced fast typists, and do not have the overhead to cover a full time employee. So what I would do if I was you, is not only advertise at college campuses, but make up business flyer's and business cards and send those to small businesses. You will be very surprised that many small businesses will definitely give you a call to do some of their data entry work. Most of the time it will be a contract per contract kind've deal, however sometimes you end up making more than you would being a full time employee for their company. And if you do not believe me that some of these businesses will even want to hire you for projects, then type Freelance into Google search field, and look up how many freelance data entry projects that employers are hiring for everyday. Just go for it, most of the people here have no idea what they are talking about. You will make money with this, but you will not get rich.
