    Relocating with my child
I have a 6 1/2 month old son that was born in Texas. His father and I lived together until my son was 2 months, but he refused to sign the birth certificate and refused to go to the Attorney Generals to get child support set up. We ended up splitting up and I remained in Texas for a month, then moved up to Washington state. While I was still there in Texas for that month after we split he didn't come to see his son once and wouldn't do anything to get rights over him. I am now in Washington state and he is telling me that he doesn't have to pay child support because I left with his son without his consent. He is saying that it's the law that I have to move back to Texas in order to get child support, but he didn't even want to claim his own kid so is this true? He has gotten a paper from the Washington child support office to start his payments about 3 months ago and still hasn't done anything about it. So is it true that I would have to move back to Texas in order to get child support?

No, it's not true. Whatever state you reside in is the state that would exercise jurisdiction over child support matters. Federal law makes provisions for the states to enforce each others' child support orders.

No, because at the time you moved and currently if I am reading this right... he is not on the birth certificate, there is not custody set up, and there is no visitation set up. You had every right to move.

You can go about getting your child support right where you are :)
