It is basically illegal to distribute copies of copyrighted material without permission of the copyright holder. Torrent sites, of themselves, are not illegal because they can be used legitimately for the distribution of non copyrighted or public domain material.

But since almost every movie ever released in a theatre is under copyright protection such files would be illegal to distribute.

    About torrent sites
:) thank you verry much that did help .but there is one thing I do not understand
If it is illegal then why do they make you pay to use the web site?
You would think since it was illegal you would not have to pay.

Your at the wrong website if they are asking you to pay. The torrent sites are free, and technically they are not illegal... yet, some sites have been asked to ban users from the US from accessing them though, like torrentspy.com

Hi Scottgem, very true, as I posted in the other question about this the sites themselves are not illegal but esp in the US they are trying to change this, a lot of torrent sites have banned users from the US from logging onto the sites in anticipation of laws to shut them down.

However since most torrent sites are overseas and since the site itself does not have the actual films, only links, it's kind of hard to prosecute, but something will happen! Oh yes!
