Ever since I got to about 20 some weeks I have been gaining like crazy... At first I was so excited about gaining and now I won't even look at the scale anymore. How much did you gain? How much did you lose during labor? How long did it take you to get rid of all (or most or some) baby weight you put on? How did you lose it?

Every woman is different. With my first I didn't start gaining weight until I was 8 months. I was a small girl to begin with. Now with my current pregnancy I started showing at 6 months. So far I have gained 30 lbs. You need the weight for the baby. I know it makes you feel like a toad but it's the best thing for your unborn child. After my first I went back down to my usual size in 2 months. Mainly because I am a dance teacher so I worked out a lot. It sometime depends on genetics. My mother has 11 children and she is as small as I am after giving birth so many times. The best solution for your question is to stay active during your pregnancy and explore fitness options for after birth. They have classes for mother to lose baby weight that can included interaction with your child. It's fun.

Don't worry about the gain. I've gained about 20-21lbs so far, which I think is pretty good. I'm hoping it will be somewhat easy to lose after he is born, but I know I will have to work at it. I have a friend that started her pregnancy at 118lbs, weighed 191 when went in for delivery. She lost 27lbs just giving birth! She was able to lose all but the last 5lbs within 6 months. It all just depends on the person, your diet, your exercise level before and after delivery, if you are breastfeeding... all the good stuff. I try to walk 3-4 times a week for half hour each. I feel so much better when I do. Hopefully it will help during and after labor. Don't stress over it, and remember that it takes 9 months to put it on, so expect at least that to take it off.

You should gain most of your weight during the last trimester.

You should gain about 2-3 pounds during the first 3 months, and 3-4 pounds per month throughout the rest of your pregnancy.

About 6-8 pounds is all baby weight, literally. The rest of the weight is from your body retaining fluid, your breast becoming larger, your uterus enlarging, amniotic fluid, and the weight of the placenta.

Your total weight gain should be about 25-30 pounds.

That being said, every woman is different. Some will gain less than the recommended 25 pounds, some will gain much more. If you only gain the recommended weight, it will mostly likely all go away a few months after birth. If you gain excess weight, you will have to work to get it off.

I gained 70+ pounds with my pregnancy... my thinking was I have been small all my life, this was my one reason to "be big". My doctors were concerned that I was going to have a big baby, and hard labor. Yeah, neither of those were the case. Labor was easy, and my daughter only weighed 6lbs 7oz... small. So needless to say, all that excess weight stayed on.

You have to really work and change your diet to get the wieght off. I mean, you gained weight for 9 months... it will take that long if not more to get it all off.

Just make sure you are eating healthy, and getting exercise while you are pregnant :)

Yeah I know the average weight to gain and all that, I was just wondering from other women's experience because not everyone is "right out of the text book" type. Nice to know I'm not the only one! Some days I feel like I'm in shape and other days I feel like a fat cow. I've been walking and doing yoga so hopefully it'll help even though it doesn't feel like it! Don't you wish there was no such thing as fats, calories, carbs and that we can just eat what we want when we want. That would nice...

I'm now 21 weeks and can't stop LOSING I was 170 when I got pregnant now I'm 150, all my regular clothes that were to tight before I got pregnant are now falling off me.
I'm not sure if this is good or bad...

I've heard of some women actually losing weight in pregnancy because they are exercising and eating extremely healthy.

Im not doing either although I should I actually use it as my excuse to be lazy and eat more sweets...
