    What action to take
I have a roommate who I have asked to leave on Dec 1, 2007. He is finally getting on his feet and take care of himself now. He moved in... Dec 7, 2006 and had just got out of prison... felony... "white collar crime" of bribery is all I could find out. He did nothing for the first 3 months. Then finally got a job... but could support self. I had enough then and he left in a rage... came back crying and me being the sucker I am... gave him a second chance. This week, He bragged how he got a coin in the mail for $1 on the internet. But he was very suspicious in taking the package it came in and throwing it away with out taking the envelope off the box. The way he went about this made me curious. So I did some dumpster diving and retrieved the box and envelope attached.

It was listed with my dog's name and his last name with a couple of letters added to his last name. I tore open the envelope (person doesn't exsist at that address and knowing the connection with the name) and there was a bill for $19.99 due immediately.
With it stating next shipment will come soon. He is committing mail fraud.

I started getting the mail at the mailbox the last couple of days (for the first time in months) and have found many more envelopes with his first initial of name and last name spelled incorrectly but phonically sounding like his. They look like statements for magazines and book clubs... I dug open mail out of the trash with unopened statements with the same issues. I also found a couple of mail pieces open, addressed to him, and stating he owes money on credit card... overdue by months, and has collection agency with over $1000 from past address in another state trying to contact him.

From past experience, his probation officer doesn't seem to want "Drama on case load", and doesn't seem like any action will be taken if I give the information to her. Not without a "he said, he said" or "one's word vs one's word" argument. I have also been told probation officers are there to protect the person on probation to keep them out of trouble and they try to reduce their own possible work load with just talking to the person and not taking action.

This person has become very aggressive lately and extremely vindictive in his actions over little things. If I bring up any issues, he automatically takes the defense with an offense by questioning me around the board on my personal issues or problems (I have no record and have tried to live a good healthy life).

My only crime is trying to help him out. I have talked to him off and on for 7 years (started 1-2 years before he even went to jail). Before agreeing to assist him, I did internet checks, called the prison for public information and found nothing beyond what he told me. I recently found out he had a felony for perjury in other state back in 89. Also found out he had theft charge with bribery charge in 2001.

I have only myself to blame. Should have asked him to leave along time ago. Now, if he causes a stink can get me in trouble with apartment complex on felon living there. Manager from Dec last year approved it as long as he kept low key and did not get into trouble or his on site officers did not find out. Probation Officer even contacted old manager and all was OK. Now new manager who appears to be a real strict individual and Im afraid I could be kicked out because of it. Never had any complaints and have always been recognized as a good tenant. The new manager started last week.

Any suggestions in getting out of this mess and blocking any type of retaliation from this person. Who do I report this to... just found out it was going on on Wed. and need to act soon.

Who cares if he can cause you trouble or not, get him out. And then deal with what happens if it happens, a metorite could fall tonight, and hit your car, and set your apartment on fire, but you deal with it when it happens. If you want to get rid of his threat to report you, go and tell them he is living there and you did not know about his criminal past at first and you need help getting him out. Then he has nothing to black mail you with

I appreciate your response. I am going to the police with the information I have to file a report. I am also asking him to leave tomorrow. I don't know if I will give him 24 hours or immediately. Still undecided only about time given to get out. He has an appointment with his probation officer tomorrow at 2. After I go to the police department, I will also let her know the issue at hand and that he will be asked to leave before he sees her tomorrow.

I am also taking off work on Wed. night to keep an eye on things.

Thank you again for the information.
