    '95 Honda Civic sporadic overheating
My '95 Honda Civic DX has been overheating, but only at certain times. It seems to happen after I've been driving on the highway for a while (often with big hills) and suddenly slow down (i.e. hit traffic or get off onto local roads). I had the thermostat replaced a couple months ago, which helped a lot, but it still overheats at times. The fluid levels seem to be fine. Once it starts overheating I can usually nurse it home if I turn the cabin heat on all the way and keep it moving pretty quickly, but the needle shoots up at traffic lights etc. My mechanic has looked at it several times at can't find anything wrong with it. They say they run it in the lot all day and drive it around a little and the temp gauge never goes above half (but obviously they can't take it on the highway for an extended drive). I drive the car to work everyday on the highway, usually 20-30 minutes, sometimes with stop and go traffic, and it never overheats. It only seems to happen after a longer period on the highway. I've heard the '95 Civics generally have a bad radiator. Is there any truth to this? Could it just be a fan not coming on? I am the second owner, but the car only has 81,000 miles on it. Any tips would be very much appreciated!! Thanks!

I would replace the radiator--it could have restricted flow, due to corrosion or mineral buildup. Only use 50/50 mixture of recommended coolant and distilled water.
