    Putting (cleaned) solenoid back on.
After much aggreviation yesterday with my mower. My room mate took my solenoid off for me. ( I was too tired after pushing it to a place where I could see.) Well, I cleaned it up good. Now, I don't have a clue as to how it goes back on. There's a cable from each battery terminal. Black(neg), Red (positive), on my solenoid there are the standard two posts and then the little piece that you slip the other thing on to. And the red cable coming from my starter. Do both cables from my battery get hooked onto to the solenoid? And from the collection of 3 wires that has one that slips on to the little pieces on the solenoid, is that the only one of the 3 that I have to worry about? and my starter cable is red, which post does that go onto on my solenoid. I've tried fidning a diagram but Im not hitting the right site I guess.

    Thank You,
    Nancy

    o.k. nancy,
No do not attach the black negative cable from the battery.
If you are holding the solenoid and looking at it with the small male blade (what you refer to as the little piece you slip the other thing on) the main top post to the left will be the connection used by the positive battery terminal. The main top post to the right will be the connection used by the starters cable. The small male blade connection is where usually a small red wire is to be connected that runs to the switch and has an inline fuse.(note, check fuse), and there is sometimes a SMALL black or green wire that hooks up to the solenoid mounting bolt. Good luck.3

Ohh yeah, the large black negative battery cable should just ground to the frame somewhere, remove a bolt in the frame and attach the cable there.
