I installed spy sweeper on an xp pro machine to remove some adware. After the removal was complete it asked to reboot my system. After the reboot I clicked on the user to login and when I hit any key (to enter password) but the keyboard not responding
I tried safe mode reboot but same thing. It was
Impossible to login.
I'm sure its not hardware problem because I tried another keyboard ( both ps/2 )

Can anyone offer any help?

Hi,
This might be, or might not be, a Registry problem with the keyboard. If you wish to try something, that can't hurt anything, try this:
Immediately after turning on the computer, press the F8 key and hold it down. If the keyboard will function during boot up, then it will take you to a menu.
Use the arrow keys to select "Last known good configuration", then press Enter.
This will use the last good Registry, and hopefully it will work.
If the keyboard will not let you use any of the F keys, then please post back.

It could still be a hardware problem. It could be a damaged PS/2 port. Unfortunately, to check that, you would need a tech to check the port. You might try a USB keyboard and see if that functions.

The keyboard is functioning during boot up and I tried the "Last known good configuration" option and tried all the other options " safe mode , command prompt ..." all the same

(fredg) I tried another keyboard ( USB )... still same problem

Hi,
I doubt that your ps2 port is bad, since you can use the keyboard until you want to log on.
Here is a link with steps on how to run the Recovery Console. Try running the Repair XP.
I am not sure this will solve it, but it's worth a try.

PS; If that doesn't work, then consider taking it to a local computer repair shop. Ask an approx. cost beforehand.

Sorry I missed that the keyboard was functioning during bootup. Since you can't load Windows at all, the only option I can see would be to try a Repair.

I tried to repair and install win xp over the original one with the repair option , and the keyboard is working till now , but at the middle of installing it asks me to TYPE the product key I hit the keyboard to enter the key BUT... yes there is still no keyboard at that point , so now I'm stuck here , I reboot it but it repete all the instalation prosses and stuck again in the key dialog

Hi,
You probably don't want to hear this, but if no one can give you an answer, I would take your computer, with keyboard, to a local computer repair store in your area. Tell them the problem, and ask for an estimated cost for repair.
You could spend a lot of time trying to fix this yourself, and they could probably fix it much sooner, but at a cost.
I am sorry, but after extensive research on the web, have not yet found an answer for you.
Also, have you tried going to the website for the manufacturer of your keyboard?
I do know that with certain Logitech keyboards, one must press the F-Lock key during boot-up, so the F1 through F12 keys will function as normal. This could be something to look into. If you have an "internet access" or Multimedia Keyboard, go to the manufacturers website, find your particular model, and see if there are any FAQ's concerning issues with the keyboard.

I have never said I was perfect. Yes I can miss something in a question, even though I do try and read them carefully. However, as soon as I see that I made an error I DO acknowledge the error and apologize for it. Unlike you, who attacks people for correcting you even when you are clearly in the wrong (this is an example).

Yes I have criticized you for not fully reading a question more carefully. But that's because it happens so frequently. If it was a rare occurrence I wouldn't say anything about it. But this happens way too often with you. As I have told you many times before, if you would be more careful in understanding and checking your answers, I wouldn't have anything to criticize you for.

I've got a similar problem and was wondering if you guys could help me out... again. When trying to install windows 2000 the keyboard and mouse stop responding. I know the mouse and keyboard both work on other machines, and I can use the keyboard to enter the BIOS. The mother board only has USB and 1 serial port, any suggestions to how I can complete the installation?
