Lisa64-: IF I were you I would get plumber in your area , That has a roto rooter because with he can cut the pipes clean. Then it will be 3 to 6 mo.s before it will probley have to be done again. It really depends on how much roots are growing inside the sewer line.. ARE YOU SURE ROOTS ARE GROWING INSIDE THE SEWER LINESW?? THE longer you wait the WORSE THEY WILL GET.::::. THE olny other way to get the line to stay clear of roots is to cut concrete out (ABOUT 2! Wide and tear out old sewer line ( will be either clay pipe or what is called { orangberg , fiberious type pipe. And replace with 3or 4" sch. 40 pvc pipe } .:::::

Then rent a sewer machine and clear out the roots. After you've cleared the roots let me show you how to control them until you can repair or replace the sewer line. Going in, let me say that sooner or later you're going to have to bite the bullet and replace that old sewer line with PVC.
RootX or Robics Foaming Root Killer that contain Dichlobrnic are two products you could try.
A less expensive way would be to call around to garden supply stores and ask for fine grain Copper Sulphate. Put a 1/2 pound in your toilet and flush it down. Repeat in 6 months.
    Hope this helps Tom
