I hve been planning to install an underground fence for my 10 pound yorkie/zu. While reading about these I came across info on the Instant fence from Petsafe. This type sends out radio waves from a transmitter (the trans mitter is inside of the house or another place like a garage.) The waves cover a circular area. The distance it covers is a circle with a 90 foot radius (180 foot diameter)
When the dog approached the edge of the circle he get a mild vibration... if he crosses the line he gets a MILD shock. If he does not respond... after 25 seconds the vibration stops.
Does anyone have either of these methods of containmment? I am wondering how you like them... how long it took the dog to get trained on either one. AND FOR THE UNDERGROUND FENCE... DID YOU LEARN ANY ""TRICKS" TO MAKE INSTALLATION EASIER?.

I've always looked for spots with fenced yards, so I can't speak to how well the invisible fences work. I will point out the two big problems with them, just so that you are informed. One, if your dog is determined enough (say they see something across the street that they just HAVE to chase), they will cross them, and then be unable to get back in. And two, they don't stop other animals from getting at your dog.

Personally, I would see about installing an actual fence, at least for part of the yard.

I haven't heard of that system. I might warn you that if you do a search on them, when it comes to dogs, the net is full of dishonest, self serving websites, not to be trusted unless you know something about whoever is behind it. Froggy is right about the problems of the buried wire types. Conventional fences always have the hazard of the gate being left open, holes, digging under, etc.

Lots. Is your landscaping complete? Grading cuts the buried wires. How
Often is your dog home alone in a power outage?

I have a wire fence partly because I want to keep disease bearing dogs out of my yard. We frequently have young puppies here and must do all we can to protect them. That is much less important with an adult dog. It also work well with our frequent visitors.

You I have one and there good the only problem is the batteries in the collar run out fast. My dog learned it in a week (its very smart though) for like 3 months you have a lot of flags all over your yard and when you get it installed you shake the flag and you half to bring the dog over the fence (I hated doing this) then you half to walk around and shake all the flags and tell your pet no or make the collar vibrate after 3 months you can take the flags down and your pet will be fine
