    Telling parents about engagement
My boyfriend is currently enlisted in the USN and is deploying in November and won't return until Springtime of 2008. When he gets back, we intend to marry right away.

What I am asking, is how am I going to tell my parents we are planning to marry? I'm pretty young and I just want to know how I can break it to them gently.

    Thank you :)

For now, I wouldn't worry about telling them. Wait until about a month before he gets back, and if you are still intending on marrying him, then just sit them down. Explain that he is coming back to the states, and that you love him and will marry him when he does. Give full disclosure; they are your parents, and they deserve at least that much.

When you say "break it to them gently" what do you mean? Do they disapprove of him? Are you too young to legally wed?

When I got engaged, it wasn't a matter of telling anyone "gently" - I'd like to think you could get married under happy circumstances without upsetting any one.
