Metal deposits in main water line
The pipes being used to supply water to our house is gavenized and around 50 years old. When we turn on the kitchen faucset, we can see metal deposits. What would be the easiest way to cure this? The distance from the meter and the house is over 100 yards. Would iot be possible to replace the old pipe with pcv, including the pipes in the house, or would an in-line filter take care of this problem?

    Thanks

The way to reduce the metal shavings and increase the house pressure would be to replace the water service from the meter to the house with PVC. While adding a inline filter may stop metal crud from getting in the system the best way to address this is to eliminate the source of the metal crud. That's for openers. After you get through installing the water service pull the aerators on the faucets and clean them and while they're off flush out all the lines to remove any crud that may be left in the system. Monitor the house system for more metal particles and if there is still a problem start thinking about repiping the house in CPVC. Good luck, Tom
