    Transmission, 2002 Honda Odyssey
2002 Odyssey with 76K miles. ATF flushed and replaced (9QTS) by dealer @46K miles, 2nd gear pack oil kit dealer installed as part of recall.

A few days ago, trans would flare then abruptly engage on 2-3 upshift, 3-2 dwnshft.
Honda service manual troubleshoot guide listed shift solenoid C as first cause. Since solenoid C and A are both under the starter, I replaced both at the same time. Both old solenoids checked OK with VOM (16 ohms) and actuated with applied 12V per the manual. I replaced them anyway.

Test driving uphill with >50% leading throttle was fine. The trans shifts better than ever. I am unable to reproduce the fault after 15 min and multiple tries. Good news. Time will tell.

I have read of frequent trans failures in 2001 and earlier Odysseys. Honda service rep says the 2002 in much improved.

I am wondering if I should sell the car now, while it is whole or keep it since the trans failures are the exception not the rule. The trans has been dealer maintained per schedule and has not seen any adverse conditions (ie: towing).

    Any thoughts?

I recommend changing the ATF every 30,000 miles, using a full-synthetic product (e.g. Amsoil Synthetic Universal ATF). Personally, I would keep the vehicle.
