Trying to connect Zenith DVD/VCR HTIB to Emerson LCD HDTV?
Hello,
I (actually my mother) has just bought a 32 inch Emerson LCD HDTV model #LC320EM8 and I need to connect the Zenith DVD/VCR HTIB model #XBS444 that I bought three years ago to it. There is no cable box currently. I have the normal hookup like you would have the cable going into the VCR and coming out to the TV, also the yellow, red, white for the dvd... I can see the vcr play a tape and the dvd play, but there are no channels showing up when you turn on the vcr, just a blue screen... Is it possible to make this work? Thanks!

Are you on the same input you would use to with the VCR? Also make sure you go through the set-up of the VCR menu. You want to find the channel search or auto tune feature. It will search out available channels. Hope this helps.

I've got it hooked up to the Video 1 input on the TV, and I tried the auto-tune or search channels on the vcr and all I get is a blue screen...

OK let's try this. Disconnect the coax (cable wire) from the VCR to the TV. My guess is that you will still get the VCR and DVD signal. You had mentioned you were on video 1, but you have two outputs going to the TV (composite and coax). I would guess that the cable pass through is on the coax. Try changing the input on the TV to the tuner and choose channel 3. You may also have the inputs and outputs on the coax reversed. Remember input from the wall and output to the TV.

I'm not 100% certain that the way your trying to hook things up is the best way, but nonetheless it should work. I think the way I would eventually hook things up is to split the COAX signal to the VCR and the TV so that each acts independently. One major reason behind this is because stereo sound is generally not available on the RF outputs. It's too expensive to do that.
Let's assume that the TV works when it's connected direct to the coax input. Tune to channel 3, analog TV, NTSC-M.
Connect the wall to the DVD ANT IN terminal and the DVD out terminal to the TV and the DVD player is OFF. You should have signal.
Remove the video input connections.
Play a tape or DVD. You should have signal on the TV. If not change to channel 4. and we'll go from there.
What I attempted to do is to determine if it's a signal problem or a tuning problem. The DVD player likely outputs on channel 3 or channel 4 only and the video outputs. With the DVD player off the RF signal is routed as pass through.
In all of my tests the TV should be set to receive analog broadcasts on channel 3 or 4.
You have to watch labeling, I've seen "TO ANT IN" which can confuse anybody. Remember to generally connect IN's to OUTs unless there is a "To" in front of the label.
