    Debts & Checking accounts
I have a few debts, and there are collectors calling. I am inquiring about starting a new checking account, but I am afraid that the collectors or anyone might be able to put a freeze on the account. I have children, and it would be easier for me to have a checking account to handle my financial matters. Thank you.

I don't understand your reasoning. If you feel that someone may put a freeze on your account, why do you want another checking account ? Why not keep cash on hand to pay your bills if you want to keep your money intact.

You said a "new" do you already have one, is it frozen?

To freeze your checking accouts they have to file and serve you notice of a law suit for a judgement, with the judgement they can freeze your checking account.

If things are getting to that point, yes it would be better not to have one.

They can't freeze your account until they obtain a judgement against you. So you would have ample warning about the possibility of an attachment.
