    Giving up Parental rights
What is the law in Okla about giving up parental rights?
Does the parent that is giving up rights have to pay anything?
What does giving up rights truly mean?

There are basically two terms in giving up "rights" first there is giving up your rights and agreeing to allow the custodial parent new partner to adopt the child. If you sign for the adoption, once the adoptoin is over, then finicial obligation also ends.

If you are merely signing over the rights to the child, you are giving up visistation rights, rights to decide on health care, on school choices. But the state can still hold you liable for the care of the child, ( child support, health care, and other costs.)

Giving up rights simply means that the parent who gives up rights has no power in the decision making process of the health and welfare of the child. It does not mean that he/she will give up the responsibility of child support

That parent will still be financially responsible for the child, but will not be able to weigh in on decisions regarding medical care for instance.

Relinquishing parental rights is a difficult process. The law makes it that way to inhibit it happening. Generally a relinquishment is usually granted only to pave the way for the child to be adopted, either by different parents or a step parent.

    Now, why do you ask?
