    Overcoming Mother's Mental State
    Help please,
    I recently wrote asking how I could get visitation with my daughter during a restraining order. I recently spoke to my lawyer about the following;
    My wife was sexually abused by several people between the ages of 12 and 16. She was mentally or physically abused by her step-mother between the ages of 16 and 20. She has a history of alcoholism and has several family members suffering from the same. She has attempted suicide several times prior to our meeting and marrying. We have been married almost 19 years and have one 8-year old daughter. Over the past 4-months, she has told me that at least 6 times she has sat with my gun in her hand and considered taking her own life. About a month ago, she told me that she had been considering killing my daughter and herself that day. When I asked her why she told me that she would not allow another woman to raise her daughter because of the trauma she had suffered with her step-mother.

    She has now filed a completely false restraining order which is keeping me from seeing my daughter at all until its resolution. I am so afraid that she will hurt my daughter or herself during this period but I have been told by my lawyer to do nothing at this point. I am so scared that this emotinally disturbed woman will hurt herself or my daughter that I can't sleep or eat. How can I protect my daughter and wife without violating the restraining order. Please help.

    This should be taken seriously because with her mental state, and verbal statements of threat to self and her daughter, this could be a preventable disaster. The therapist, the school nurse, the pediatrician, should be notified of this . Her statements could mean nothing but could also be a cry for help. These individuals are legally mandated by their profession to report any threats of this kind. What ever the terms of the r.o. does not preclude your reporting to the authorities of such. Take care

    Wow, what a rough situation to be in... In light of you daughter you may try filing a counter restraining order against your wife seeing that you fear for your daughters life. Perhaps, you could call the Child and Family Services in your area and see what you could do... they may pull out a complete investigation on your wife. Those are some pretty vivid things your wife said not to mention she was prancing around with a gun at the time. Is there another family member who could take custody of your daughter until your restraining order is lifted? Oh, and rid the gun, put the gun in a safety deposit box and keep it outside of the home in a safe place for the time being... you wouldn't want it to get in the wrong hands... no telling what your wife could do with it.
