    Bad smell in washing machine
My washing machine smells real bad:eek: . I have cleaned it out twice and it gets a gunky build up right away and I have run it with bleach several times and no matter what it still smells. My washing machine drains into the basement sink/tub and that drains into the big hole in the basement. What can be the problem and what can I try to fix it? Thanks~April

I was told to put a tablespoon of dishwasher soap in it, then do a complete cycle on the hottest it can be. (without clothes in it) Try that, I hope it works.

Have you washed any extremely greasy clothes in it recently?

No greasy clothes and we have run it alone with detergent at high heat several times as well as with bleach and alone. Still stinks!

You may have to remove the tub and see what's behind it. Something has to be on the outer side of it.

One more question... does this happen even if you take the clothes out right after you wash them? Or do you leave them in there for a few hours? Thanks

I had this happen twice. Once the black tube on the back that drains the water was clogged with pet hair and fuzz. It wasn't clogged enough to block the flow of water, but it was enough to harbor stinky bacteria.
Secondly, it was my fabric softener dispenser.
I had to pop it out and open it up to clean all this smelly build up out.
