Pregnancy can usually only occur in the middle of your cycle. It is highly unlikely that you'd get pregnant at the very beginning or the very end of your period. After ovulation the egg remains viable for about 24 hours. If not fertilized within that time then your normal cycle completes itself and your period occurs.
