Strange things we did for entertainment
When I was growing up we had to find our own intertainment, as we did not have all that the kids today have. I think we were happier to.
We used to pour salt on slugs and watch them diisapear thought of that because curly ben was asking how to get ride of them. It started me thinking back to all the stuff we did as kids, like pulling the lights off lighting bugs and making diamond rings. LOL anyone else do that?
We used to play kick the can, goast in the graveyard and we made up games like 3 trees.
Please share the fun things that you did as kids,
I think I will print them out and show the youngsters in the family.

We would go to the golf course, after the course was closed and look for golf balls. We would play softball and change rules once in awhile, such as the bases run the opposite or the strikes were increased or automatic out if the ball went further than the last person in the outfield. Make up number games. Fun and cheap things.

We lived in the snow most of the year, we would have fights, or compete for the best snow hut or base. I had 1 sister and 3 brothers so my time was spent with them or my friends just walking the neighborhood, meeting at the baseball field playing with the whole neighborhood. We would walk to and from school no matter what the weather so we played I spy often. I have to admit once Atari came out our lives changed a bit. HE he. Oh, kick the can, we would do the whole truth or dare. I hope to God my kids get the feeling I did as a kid. I remember feeling good, guilty, and right and wrong just came natural. This was fun. Thanks

It's a wonder my brother and I have eyes or fingers because we found an old fan in our garage that had metal blades and we would stick anything and everything in there for it to chew up - pine needles, pine cones, sticks, etc.

We also would swing from an old burlap sack filled with cotton hung by a big rope on our tree in the back yard.

    Plain ol' country fun.

Oh yes, I remember the snow banks as high as the house and we would go outside and be "miners" digging tunnels. Could walk on top of the banks. Our garden became a skating rink and a central spot for the neighborhood. No such thing as being allowed to watch television when we were supposed to be outside, blowing off steam and energy.

No such thing as TV unless the chores and homework were done. Remember jumping off the roof to your death? And if you were to sissy to do it, better watch out some one will push you. Jumping my bike into the lake with a life jacket strapped to it? At least the bike would survive the jump right? My kids got it all, they have guts, 2 of them have eaten worms and ants, 2 have the smarts not to. LOL, I wish I was able to say I had the smarts not too. I know gross but well worth the buck my dad gave me to do it!

Now, I know almost everyone here has played some variation of "The floor is made of lava" when they were young. Or perhaps recently...

That is right - chores, then homework, then have the chance to get outside. I thought I was big stuff when we moved into town from the farm - I had less chores. Until my Mom found new ones. Lol

I can remember the house we grew up in had a large Magnolia tree and my brother and I would hide in the limbs and lie in wait for an unsuspecting friend to come by and we would attack them with the seed pods that resemble grenades.

Thanks for the thread - I haven't thought about those days in a long time.

I like to imitate others(famous people, or ordinary people, like my friends) in front of my friends. I like to talk in different accents too.:D

It is very rewarding to make others laugh.:)

The lava game/ oh we would play that if you touched the floor you were in hot lava, you had to walk on only the pillows or paper that was scattered around the floor.

As a children, my sister and I would pretend to be different animals and play ALL day. We would go to the creek and make ourselves a "din" or whatever that certain animal lived in. We would play the "ultimate Tomgirl game" , as we would call it, were I would lead her and some others around doing crazy dirty things like rolling in the mud, eating bugs, dipping in the extremely cold water, putting a crawfish on your head... it was great. One of the best times I can remember is when we would pretend to be fairies... one day we decided to climb our favorite tree and place candles all over it; that night we lit all of the candles and climbed down to look at it. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen... even used the idea at my wedding. We would also make clubs and secret hideouts. A lot of the times, my daddy would bring home MRI's(army meals) for us and we thought they we SO cool. We would pack up a whole bunch of stuff including the MRI's and go into the woods for hours pretending to be secret armed forces. One of our favorite games at night was german spotlight and of course, ding dong ditch! Oh there are just so many fun things we did... wish I could go back!

Your daddy reminds me of mine, a little different though Rank, he would get off the plane from working on the oil pipe line in Alaska and bring back so many treats in his brief case for all of us kids to pick which ones we wanted. We would fight over the best and being the youngest, I just took what I could get! LOL. That is a good memory!
