electrical ceiling fan wiring
My husband and I are not sleeping well... Because our new ceiling fan - bought at a garage sale (aka foreclosure liquidation) - is possessed. The light randomly turns on during the night.
My hubby, a very smart and handy man, installed the new Hunter ceiling fan in our bedroom. The wall mount is a multiple speed slide adjuster that did not work as supposed to. However, the remote works! The first few nights the ceiling fan worked great, as long as you used the remote. We did not have any problems until the third night...
At 1:30am the bright light turned on with the fan at full speed! This startled both of us in bed - believing the police must be conducting a raid or something!! But there was no one there. So, reluctantly, we turned off the light and fan then returned to sleep. At 2:30 am the thing turned on again... Okay, this was creeping both of us out. We had no idea as why the fan and light turn on. The remainder of the night was quiet.
In the morning we thought perhaps, a neighbor has a remote with the same frequency as our fan. However, we don't seem to have this problem in the daytime. Also, the problem had not surfaced again for another day or two.
Now, when the light comes on at night, it will do it several times a night. Some right after the other, or it can be hours later- even when neighbors are sleeping. We are tired and downright confused! I am beginning to wonder if we need an excorcist over an electrician

I am going to take a stab at this one -- could be wrong but at lease I tried
I think someone has a garage opener or Hunter fan remote near you
There are dip switches in the fan and remote , write down setting and change
Both to a new setting, hope this solves the problem, sweet dreams

Out of curiosity, does it occur when the whole house AC or HEAT is on? What's the furnace make and model if it does.

Called Hunter Fan at 1-888-830-1326 and what they say is RFI
Radio Frequency Interference... Take batteries out of remote,
Turn fan off, set dip switches to a different setting at fan and
The remote, replace batteries in remote and turn fan on...
Hope this solves the problem -- Thank You

Same as what I was suggesting, except I've never heard of having to take the batteries out to switch frequencies.
