I have a brother that was convicted nine years ago for theft and assault. He was eighteen at the time and him and a few friends decided to do a beer and gas run. My brothers friend had a gun and pulled it out at the person at the register w/out my brother knowing this. They ended up leaving with beer and fueled up their vehicle. When my brother was convicted he received 25 years of prison. He has now been in there for 9 years. I feel that he has already paid for the crime that he committed. I have seen so many case where real criminals just get probation. This was brothers first offense. What can I do to help him.

"Real Criminal" armed robbery of a gas station is a real criminal, and 25 years is a just sentence for people who use guns in a robbery, he had a choice once he saw the gun he could have stayed at the station and said no way to it, *** but come on, he did not know they had a gun, you may believe it because he is your brother but I doubt anyone else does.

He should be up for parole about now if not at 10 years, so if he has stayed out of trouble while he was in prison, he should be getting out soon, if he stayed in trouble in prison, it will be longer

There's really nothing you can do to help him at this point. It's up to the system now. Do you know how long it is before he's eligible for parole? Usually it's after serving from 1/3 to 1/2 of his sentence (for an armed robbery conviction, it may be 1/2.) If it's 1/3, then he's now eligible. If it's 1/2, then he's got a few more years to go. His conduct while incarcerated will have a lot of bearing on whether he's granted parole. Of course, once paroled, he still lives a probation-like existence for the remainder of his original sentence.
