I am a married guy about 33 years old. I have no problem getting or staying hard when I am on top or behind, however I seem to be having problems lately with staying hard when I am on my back and my wife is on top. What could be causing this and is it difficult for most guys to stay really hard when they are flat on their back? Is there any non-viagra method I can use to help my erection while on my back? I am not overweight, and I am in reasonably good athletic shape and work out pretty regularly. Not sure what my problem is.

Is it just when having intercourse, i.e. just when your partner is on top, or would it happen if you were to just masturbate on your back? Have you ever had a back injury? The erection is primary caused by the parasympathetic nervous system with nerve roots originating from the sacrum (the area above your "tail bone"). Could be a matter of just the weight load causing some bit of compression. May want to experiment with some well placed pillows and see what happens. If you notice any other symptoms like numbness or pain, you should definitely go to your doctor.

I only have difficulty keeping really hard when I am on my back. No other positions. I am totally fine when I am on top, or behind doggie style or anything else for that matter. I have never had a back problem or injuries to my back. I haven't really tried masturbating whilst on my back, never really tried that. When masterbating standing up or sitting I am OK. Does this have to do with the fact that I am having problems with blood flow when flat on my back. This is beginning to affect my love life with my wife as being on top is her favorite position and I am having difficulty accommodating her. It's not that I go totally flacid, I just don't stay as hard as she would like.

I have the same problem, I stay harder when I am on top. I think it feels better because your running the show and know what you like. When she's on top she is running the show and knows what to do to make her feel good

jac1186 that might be a pretty good observation on your part. When my wife is on top she does tend to run the show so to speak. She loosens up quite a bit as well and it is sometimes difficult to get any feeling when she is on top. I know any other position she is as tight as a drum, but when she is on top she is very wet, wild and loose which doesn't give me as much sensation. She's given me falatio on while I'm on my back and I never had a problem staying hard, but what guy doesn't enjoy a good bj? I guess I am normal? Still not sure what to do about solving this problem though outside of viagra. I feel like I am still way to young and healthy and don't want to do any long term damage to myself.
