Hello everyone

Couple of weeks ago my PC died fixing it would take a lot of money so I bough a new one, the problem is I want to install the HD of the old PC (which has info and a lot of my schoolwork project) to the new one but when I install it on new one it doesn't boot windows XP and it ask for a bootable disk or something like that which I don't have. My old PC and new one got windows XP the HD is 400gb and its like 3-4month old and the HD was used for data only no OS in it.

You need to set the old drive as a slave then you'll be able to access the data, assuming that the disc is fine.
You are getting the error message as the system is confused which drive to boot from.

I agree with the answer above.

I'm no computer geek. But, I've set hard drives as slaves to another many times. You just need to know what kind of hard drive the old one is and how to configure the jumpers on the rear of it in order for it to operate as a slave.

I have found how to configure the jumpers by doing a Google search for " the hard drive's specific name" and "jumpers" beside those words. You don't necessarily need to use the quotation marks in the search.

Setting the old drive as a slave is the best thing to do. You may have to change the jumpers on the back of the drive depending on how the old PC was setup and what kind of drive it is.

If you must boot off the old one make sure the other drive is unpluged. (both drives are probably set to be the master) Be warned that even if it does boot you're going to get a thousand errors because all the drivers on that HD are for your old hardware.
