My new house is bordered by ground, garden rocks, and grass that is only 3 inches lower than the siding. I'm concerned about bugs (termites).

So, I thought I'd lower the ground by shoveling the border to make the distance appx 8 inches.

But, I'm thinking that will create a situation where rain water will collect against the house in a "moat."

I thought about filling that trench with some stones. Any ideas?

I naturally *don't* want to have to grade the entire property.

If anyone is interested in how this turned out, I dug the trench around the house to lower the ground. I've filled the trench with garden stones.

It is draining pretty well in rain.

My hope is the absence of ground right up against the beginning of the frame will minimize the possibility of termites or ants entering through the frame.

We'll see.
