    Moving a register
    Hi,

I need to move a wall in a basement remodel project. The wall has a 11" X 3" duct running down the wall to a return register. This duct is tapped off a larger duct in the ceiling (8" X 12" I think). I need to move the wall back 6' so the duct in the wall needs to be taken out and moved back with the wall. My question is how do I go about cutting into the duct and reattaching it to the new hole and capping the old hole. I 'd appreciate any help.

These are the common sheet metal ducts? Use a small hole saw to cut a starter hole in the duct and use tin snips to cut the hole. I think they make a boot to connect the ducts. Just screw or rivet a flat piece of metal over the old hole.
