I recently installed new reccessed bathroom shower from kohler. It has single lever diverter. Water is diverted to shower by using knob on spout.

After installing it, I found out that water pressure in spout and shower has decreaed by large amount. I can't say if its water pressure or water volume but I don't get much water pressure/volume in spout or shower.

I checked the water pressure before the diverter and it is very good. However, after the diverter, its just dies down. I called up kohler people and even they agreed that pressure is very low. However, they also told me that single lever diverter do cut down the pressure. I simply do not buy this logic that diverter will reduce the water pressure. Why would diverter reduce the water pressure? Shouldn't it just divert and control the pressure?

Any help into my problem is appreciated.

You probably got junk in the lines/valve. Like excess solder. Try disasseming the fixture and look for junk.

Actually, I am renovating both my baths from scratch and all the plumbing/piping is new and are clean. Moreover, I am facing same issue in both the baths which is surprising.

Also, could you give some inputs if the diverter reduce the water flow or pressure?

It's all the more reasons to suspect junk in the lines. I replaced a single lever with diverter on the spout and I had no hot water. There was a piece of solder in the pre-regulator. It's a commercial valve and it's kind of odd. ADA compliant, temperature controlled. Diverter at the bottom with a special fitting.

In my case there were some adjustments to get the shower volume and pressures right. The reason why is the thermostatic controlled spring. You could have too much hot water or the water is too hot.

Where in % of the control extremes is the shower temperature comfortable? It shouldn't be close to the extremes.
