Can I leave my puppy in the car while I go into the store even if it takes me an hour to finish. Or is that too long

Not unless you like roasted puppy brain. Dogs should not be left in the car duering the summertime the internal temp of the car could be drasticaly different than that of the outside. As well as the fact puppy may chew or pee pee in the car

On a hot day, the 5 minute errand that turns into a 10 minute one can cook a puppy. Think about what the car is like when you come back to it. Dogs can't take much heat. I really had to work the last few days keeping my year old Lab, Holly, from cooking. In the last week Holly and I spent 2 days working at the gate to a fair, and 3 days working at a festival. Even with keeping her wet down, I had to let her spend the peak of the one afternoon lying in the shade.

A child and a puppy/dog are two different things. I don't plan to leave my dog in the car now while it's hot I was just asking in general. The issue is that a dog will die in a car just like a child would.

I think the answer ( would you leave a child in) a very great answer, if you would not leave a child in the car, you don't leave a dog in the car.

If you can't see the answer in that you don't need to own a dog.

I only ask because I don't want to leave him alone in the house because I don't live 5min away from everything anymore. I'm having a hard time just leaving him and the house I would rather have him where I can access him right away.

It is in fact not an answer but a question I should have a dog I do have a dog and I will have a dog now and for a long time to come. I take very good care of my dog thank you he gets the best. If you don't have constructive advice do not comment to my page thank you

Dakota, any vet will tell you that it is unsafe to leave a dog in a car in any weather that is extreme, hot or cold. During the fall and spring months, on cooler days, but not cold, you can leave a dog safely in a car for a few minutes with the windows open a couple of inches. But, it is never adviseable to go shopping and leave your dog in the car. Have you started crate training your pup?
