Trane XL16i, Variable Speed Air Handler, 803 thermostat
We purchased this unit about 8 weeks ago and it's been nothing but a headache. Trane's field rep came out Friday with the installer and they gave the unit a complete going over. Checked duct work, everything. Even replaced the thermostat. Was assured everything was mechanically correct.

The system ran fine Friday PM and Sat AM. Saturday afternoon it started cycling on and off every 10 to 15 minutes (this was one of the original complaints). Temp 75 degrees, humidity 51% (fine) but the short cycles continued. This afternoon, the unit came on at 1:20. It is now 4:00 and the unit's still running. Thermostat is registering a temp of 75 degrees, humidity 54%.

We're in NWA where the temp is 102 and humidity is running 67% - 68% on average.

It sounds to me like the thermostat wiring might have something to do with this. It's like it's stuck now and not getting the signals to shut down.

I'm calling Trane again tomorrow, but I'm getting so frustrated with the bizarre run cycles and beginning to wonder if this is ever going to be resolved.

By the way, we also bought the Clean Effects. Instructions say to run fan, but when I do, it kicks humidity back up to 54%??

Stick with the professionals that you hired to do your job. Anything said here about your system would be a second guess at best since we cannot see exctly what is going on. Trane has had some problems lately with the Clean Effects unit.

OK. Know that's best advise but I'm so rapidly losing patience.

Trane Variable speed w/hot water coil/Ac wiring ? [ 3 Answers ]

I've read many of the previous questions/answers, but haven't found what I need. Low voltage wiring is not my strong suit. My AHU has a hot water coil in it, that I plan to heat with a Voyager water heater. It has an A/C coil, and that works fine. Previous answers have said that I should find a...
