    My car overheats
    My car keeps overheating.I think my belt is loose.When I cut the air on the belts squeals at first.I have changed the thermostat.The car is a 2003 dodge stratus 2.4 liter sedan.Can the drive belt make your car overheat.Can this belt be tightened on this car or does it have to be replaced.

    The problem may be not the belt but the belt tensioner. If a replacement belt is slipping, causing squealing, inspect the tensioner for travel and adjust.

    The water pump, however, is driven by the timing belt. If your vehivcle is overheating, inspect the coolant level or take it to a qualified shop or dealer.

    (editted) You'd also be advised to have the cooling fans function checked.
