I have read a few of the answers to the questions regarding the accumulation of ice inside the freeze near the drain area. I have a brand new GE GHS25JFT refrigerator that was delivered today. Actually, this was the replacement for the one that was delivered on Tuesday. The frig that was just delivered today has a film of ice that is in the 'valley' near the drain inside the freezer.

The reason I had them give me another frig is because the other one was leaking water behind the inside panel. Is it normal for a new frig to have some accumulation of ice near the drain? I have read many reports similar to this and they all seem to something that is not right.

I broke the ice up (and dried the area) and will see if it builds up again, but it would be nice to know if it is normal so that I won't worry about it. If it is an issue, than I will have to return the frig again and look for a different model.

Let unit run for a few days and keep an eye on it. It may just because unit was very warm inside before starting unit and it was condensation. It probably will be OK

Should I continue chipping away the ice that keeps accumulating for the next few days or just let it be?

I had called GE and they said that it is not normal to have any ice accumulating there. I am trying to decide whether to return the frig and get something different. I can probably wait a couple days to see if this problem is resolved. It seems like a good frig other than this issue.

I would not chip and take a chance on damage. I would pour warm water on it to remove it then dry the area off with a towel. After a couple days if problem is still there I would do something about it. i.e.. Return it or call for service.
