    The "Non-existing"401K Plan
I left a job back in 1993 due to health reasons but at that time I did not close out my 401k. I have since then moved a few times and had forgotten about it until about a year ago. I at that time started trying to track it down. I contacted the company that I originally worked for and they forwarded me to the investment firm that was suppose to be holding it. They in turn sent me to three more investment firms who in turn just kept sending back and forth between them all. I have been told that I still have my 401 by one person, while another tells me there is no record, and yet another tells me my 401k has already been closed out. If anyone has any answers please help? ::confused:

If it's been "closed out" the assets must have been sent somewhere. Since you moved so often it's possible that the original investment firm tried to contact you via mail, and when you didn't respond they may have declared your assets as unclaimed, and they would have then turned the assets over to the state. Now, the good news is that all states have programs to try and find the rightful owners of lost financial assets. Do a Google search on "unclaimed assets" together with the name of the state you lived in at the time you worked for this company, and you should be able to get to a web site run by the state where you can do an on-line search to see if you have any assets there. Good luck!

Do you have ANY documents that show the account and a previous balance. The investment firm has to be able to show where the money went.

Please do not use e-mail or PMs for a follow-up question. I don't respnd to them.

You need to go back to the company with the statement and tell them find your money or you will sue.
