My daughter is addicted to pain pills and the Hospital Emergency Rooms are the biggest suppliers.

Over the past three months, she has visited fourteen emergency rooms, been admitted for one - two weeks in three of the hospitals. Even though the Drs. Say all the tests are negative and there is nothing wrong, they continue to prescribe pain pills.

Her two children, ages six and eight are the ones impacted most by this behaviour. They all three live with me. The children are not fed, supervised or guided in any manner unless my husband and I take full responsibility. Then we come under attack and accused of wanting to take her children away.

Where and how do I get help for her? I believe she will be dead in another year unless her addiction is stopped.

Yes, I have been through the Department of Family and Children Services in Georgia. "USELESS".

My daughter does not have insurance and I cannot afford to pay for her treatment. Any recommendation or advice you can provide will be most appreciated.

I feel for your situation but surprised that a doctor as not caught this abuse. It will be hard to help someone that doesn't want to help themselves. I think maybe these people might be able to guide you a little bit. Drug Addiction Help Alcohol Substance Abuse Help or call 1-800-784-6776.

Am I correct in assuming when she goes in to the hospital for her "problem" that she may use an alias? This is very common in the drug seeking population.

Does she get her prescriptions via a pharmacy? If so, you should contact the pharmacies.

Three months is a short time for the hospitals to set up their databases. You may want to call the ER departments of these hospitals and let them know what is going on.

Addiction to pain pills is VERY VERY common. If you have any medications in your house whatsoever, including anything as mild as Tylenol, I suggest you lock them up. Reason being, once she is discovered, she will find a way, any way to feed her addiction. That includes your medicine cabinet.

MyOnlyDaughter, I live in Ga as well. I have beat my addiction problem. Email me and maybe I can be of some help. I met a DR that changed and saved my life for good. I would love to share some info with you. I know all the ways, excuses etc that people will use. Like I said, I would love to help you or your daughter.
