Husband rescued an abandoned/ wild kitten. Not sure if actually wild but was roaming for at least 6-8 weeks outside looks about 12 weeks old. Very friendly and affectionate. Ate out of dumpster and actually came up to him meowing. Have had her for about a week. Was very constipated. Bought high quality kitten food and canned food finally a day later pooped solid . But, quickly turned loose with some form. Put on chicken & rice diet and firmed up. After 2 days put back on dry food & canned and started going soft again. Not sure what to do. Pet store says evaporated milk mixed 1/2 with water to keep hydrated but won't that give the scoots. Seems very perky eating and drinking fine.

It might just be the change in diet. My cat had nasty gas/diarrhea for a week after we got her from a shelter and switch foods. Evaporated milk and water should be fine. I wouldn't give the milk everyday though.

There is kitten replacement milk sold at pet stores and walmart. This would be better for it than regular human products. I would make sure it was getting kitten chow and I would take away the wet food and see how it acted with its bm's or also you could try to wet its food down a little and give just tiny anounts of the wet food, I think the wet may be to rich for it. Also do not let it eat too much. The kitten probably needs to be wormed and given shots. Btw it was very nice of you to take it in.

The other thing to keep in mind is that many cats don't deal well with changes in their food. The general rule of thumb is to mix in small amounts of the new food with the old, and gradually increase the amount of new until you get to a point where it's all the new type.

Has the kitten been to a vet? If not, you really need to get her in for her kitten shots, and the vet may have some advice on the food.
