    I broke my lease in hyattsville Maryland 2/01/2006 and on 08/04/2007 someone came to my home and dropped a summons on the ground in front of my door stating that the management company is sueing me. After a year and a half . Can they do this and if so how much can they take from me my husband is not working and I am taking care of 5 people and paying rent and electric out of 1324.00 every two weeks before taxes what should I do before sept 10th 2007 court date

    First its not a good idea to piggyback your post on someone else's thread, so I'm requesting it be moved to its own thread.

    Yes that can do this. Your lease is a contract and if you moved out wihtout permission you are liable under the terms of the contract. You owe them rent until the end of the lease, less your security deposit plus any damages to the premises. They can also add on atty and other legal fees.

    You need to find out when they rented the unit as the courts will generally not allow them to double dip. Once you find that out, you can offer a settlement.
